PAPALE LINEA ORO PRIMITIVO DI MANDURIA 2017 DOP
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer Varvaglione
This 16th Papale Vintages release offers Italian wine lovers great value all packaged up in an extremely impressive very hefty bottle. Weighting in with 14.5% alcohol and 11 g/L residual sugar, this 100% Primitivo di Manduria (aka Zinfandel) from the heel of Italy has an intense, deep ruby colour. The nose is intense, rich and spicy with black cherry, plum jam and cassis fruit. Slightly off dry, it’s medium-full bodied, very intense, spicy and juicy with plummy, black cherry fruit flavours and a lingering, somewhat cedary, dense, warm finish. Ready-to-drink, it should work well with bbq ribs with a rich smoky sauce. This new batch has lot number L22020115 on on the back label. CSPC 261784

TASTING NOTE: This is a plush, soft and generous red from the hot southern heel of Italy, with ripe blackberry jam, black rose, dried herbs and spices. It is quite full bodied and warm with a hint of sweetness and some sandy tannin. This maintains some poise and elegance in a region where alcohol and over-ripeness often create a soupy mess. The length is very good to excellent. Easy drinking where big reds are required. Score - 90 (David Lawrason, winealign.com, March 2022) Price $ 21.95
