ESTATE CABERNET FRANC 2019 VQA Beamsville Bench, Niagara Escarpment |
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note |
Producer |
CAVE SPRING |
A REPEAT of the 2019 (**/**+) was released on December 11, 2021 at $17.95. Retasted and assessed from a bottle provided by the producer. This still youthful, fairly grippy, albeit quite well structured 100% Cabernet Franc has according to the label a hefty 14% alcohol and 2 g/L residual sugar. A great match for tomato-based Italian recipes, it has a bright very deep purple colour. The nose is slightly spicy, gently herbal and faintly peppery with firm plummy fruit and minerally, sandalwood notes. Dry, medium bodied, bright, tangy, faintly herbal, fresh, rather youthful, tomato-plum flavours with a lingering, crisp, faintly cedary, earth-tinged, grippy finish. This well-priced red that calls for the right food pairing and with hefty total acidity it should really appeal to cool-climate Cab Franc fans. |

TASTING NOTE: Elegant and pure, this delicately aromatic cabernet franc truly pops on the palate. Juicy and refreshing with surprising freshness despite the level of alcohol. Notes of fresh mint, red plum, cranberry and wet stone are complimentary on the palate. The tannins are only mildly drying. Good length. Best now to 2027. Tasted December 2021. Score - 89 (Sara d'Amato, winealign.com, undated) |
