Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer R. LÓPEZ DE HEREDIA
This late arrival was assessed on July 13. This one-of-a-kind red from LÓPEZ DE HEREDIA has a rather deep ruby colour with some garnet notee on the edge. Intense, very complex, spicy, cedary, somewhat earthy,, sandalwood-tinged, warm, ripe, plum-cherry nose with some very faint leafy, lead pencil (graphite) notes. Very dry, medium-full bodied, nicely structured, spicy, complex, minerally, intense, firm, slightly savoury, ripe, plum-cherry-cassis flavours with a lingering, high-acid, rether cedary, sandalwood-tinged finish. This blend of 70% Tempranillo, 20% Garnacha and 10% and Mazuelo and Graciano has 13% alcohol, under 2 g/L residual sugar and 6.6 g/L total acidity with lot number L0934 on the back label. It was aged for six years in 225 L American barrels which were made at the winery from imported Appalachian mountain oak and bottled without filtration. The recommended 2009 (***/***+) with 94-points was released on October 2, 2021 at $60.95. Loved by many who have acquired the taste. CSPC 356337

TASTING NOTE: Featuring the time-honoured blend of Tempranillo with 20% Garnacha and 10% Graciano and Mazuelo for extra structure and longevity, it has notes of black cherry and black olive, racy acidity, very little apparent oak and tannins that wouldn't look out of place in a Barolo.
