CHÂTEAU SAINT-ROCH CHIMÈRES 2018 AP Côtes du Roussillon-Villages, Midi, France |
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note |
Producer |
Maison Lafage |
This July 24, 2021 REPEAT was assessed from a bottle just purchased at the LCBO. A consistent crowd-pleaser, the 2018 has a bright extremely deep intense purple-ruby colour and an intense, spicy, gently complex, juicy, plum-cherry-cassis purée nose with some cedar-mocha-chocolate notes. Dry, medium to medium-full bodied, spicy, intense, ripe, plummy-black-cherry purée flavours with a mineral-tinged, somewhat cedary, lingering, extracty finish. This blend of 40% Grenache, 30% Syrah and 30% Cinsault is half aged in demi-muids, the other half in concrete tanks and has 15% alcohol and 2 g/L residual sugar with a new lot number L201225 on the lower part of the glass bottle. |

TASTING NOTE: The 2018 Côtes du Roussillon Villages Chimères is 40% Grenache and 30% each Carignan and Syrah, aged 14 months in a combination of concrete tanks and oak demi-muids. Like virtually all of the Lafage affiliated wines, it overdelivers for the price, offering up bushels of blueberries, cherries and stone fruit, tamed into savoriness on the finish by hints of wood spice and black olives. It's full-bodied and concentrated but supple, making it drinkable now and over the next five or so years. Impressively, this is a stronger effort than the 2017. Drink date: 2020- 2025. Score - 91 (Joe Czerwinski, robertparker.com, June 11, 2020) |
