VINUM CHENIN BLANC 2020 WO Stellenbosch
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer RADFORD DALE
As a fan of South African Chenin Blanc I was pleased that winemaker Jacques de Klerk continues to deliver lots of ripe Chenin Blanc flavours at a reasonable price. Light medium straw in colour, this 100% old bush vine Chenin Blanc has a fairly complex, rather fruity nose focused on apricot, pear, ripe apple and yellow plum with some spicy, faintly honeyed, mineral-tinged notes. Dry, medium bodied and well structured, the fairly extracty flavours are focused on ripe binned apples and yellow-plum fruit. It has a lingering, mineral-tinged, fairly fleshy, pool-cue-rosin-tinged finish. Still fairly youthful, it can age and improve for a few more years. This 100% old bush vine Chenin Blanc has a surprisingly hefty 13% alcohol, 2.6 g/L residual sugar and a somewhat modest 5.5 g/L total acidity with lot number L21021 on the back label. Screwcap closure. Try with roast chicken. CSPC 13338
