ORENO 2018 IGT Toscana |
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note |

SETTE PONTI |
A REPEAT of the recommended 2018 (***/***+) with 96-points that was last released/tasted on October 16, 2021 at $89.95. Assessed from a new bottle just purchased at the LCBO. There have been 17 previous releases of Oreno dating back to December 2010 - the best so far was the 2017. And yet, what an amazing uptick from the excellent 2017 to the magnificent 2018. It’s all about elegance, balance, ripeness and harmony. And best of all is its accessibility and drinkability. This 2018 is a new blend of 45% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Petit Verdot. Very deep intense ruby-violet colour. The nose has intense, warm, slightly earthy, gently cedary notes built around mineral-tinged, bright, ripe, plum-cherry-cassis fruit. Very dry, medium-full bodied, dense and well structured with slightly spicy, intense, bright, ripe, plum-cherry-cassis fruit flavours along with a lingering, surprisingly harmonious, fairly high acid finish. Elegant with refined ripe tannins. It has 15% alcohol and 2 g/L residual sugar with a new lot number L0607217 on the back label. |

TASTING NOTE: Currant, flower and orange-blossom aromas follow through to a full body with fine, creamy tannins and a long, persistent finish. Shows finesse and precision. Cherry and orange-peel notes at the end. The flavors go on and on. Better after 2022. Score - 97 (jamessuckling.com, Dec. 21, 2020) |
