KEW SOLDIER'S GRANT 2018 VQA Niagara Peninsula
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer KEW VINEYARDS
This unique partial appassimento Kew limited edition estate red has a deep intense purple-red colour. The nose shows lots of complexity with intense, somewhat earthy, faintly savoury, ripe plum-crancherry fruit along with cedar-sandalwood notes. It’s dry, medium to medium-full bodied and quite well structured with intense, tangy, maturing, ripe, plum-crancherry flavours followed up by a lingering, crisp, somewhat savoury, very faintly bitter, cedar-sandalwood finish. Pretty much at its peak - it pairs with well-marbled steaks or roast duck. It has 14.5% alcohol and 2 g/L residual sugar. A blend of 53% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Syrah and 22% Cabernet Franc - the latter is partially appassimento as 64% of the Cab Franc grape clusters (14% of the total wine) are kiln-dried for 100 days taking sugar levels to 31º brix (from 21º for fresh portion). The final blend was aged for 18 months in French and American oak. A one-of-kind Canadian red. CSPC 367318
