|CUVÉE NICOLAS VIEILLES VIGNES GRENACHE NOIR 2019 IGP Côtes Catalanes
|Vintage Assessments Tasting Note
|This is a very good recommended best buy red but I am sad to say here is no accounting for its ridiculously high score. It seems that Jeb Dunnuck has joined forces with Luca Maroni to deliver astronomical points for well-made, tasty, commercial, crowd-pleasing reds that should rarely ever break through the 90-point threshold. At 95-points, this one of them. Deep intense purple colour, the nose is quite intense, somewhat spicy, savoury and gently juicy with ripe, Damson plum fruit along with some sandalwood notes. Dry, medium bodied, quite well structured, spicy, fairly intense, gently complex, ripe, plum-cherry flavours with a fairly high acid, minerally, still youthful, very faintly earthy finish. Try with a grilled steak. This 100% Grenache has 15% alcohol and 6 g/L residual sugar with lot number L21280D on the lower part of the glass bottle. It was aged in 600 L oak barrels for 8 months on the lees which added richness. The 2018 (**/**+) was released on September 5, 2020 at $19.95.

A Best Buy
|TASTING NOTE: All Grenache brought up in demi-muids and aged on lees for 8 months, the medium ruby/purple hued color of the 2019 Cuvée Nicolas is followed by a killer bouquet of kirsch liqueur, savory spices, cured meats, and peppery garrigue. Rich, medium to full-bodied, and gorgeously textured, it has wonderful richness with no sensation of weight or heaviness. It's another insane value from this team. Maturity: 2021-2026. Score - 95 (jebdunnuck.com, March 22, 2021)
