HERITAGE COLLECTION CHARMED SPARKLING ROSÉ 2020 Charmat method, VQA Ontario
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer MARYNISSEN
his tasting note is based on a bottle provided by the winery. Made in the Charmat stainless-steel-tank-fermented method with 6-months aging, it has a pricey traditional cork-capsule closure. Very pale oink colour with small bubbles. The pleasant nose is quite sweetish, spicy and honeyed with lots of strawberry-cherry fruit. Off dry, medium-light bodied, spicy, fizzy, ripe, strawberry-cherry flavours with a mellow finish. This ready-to-drink blend of 47% Merlot, 34% Pinot Noir, 10% Riesling, 5% Gewurztraminer and 4% Muscat has 11.5% alcohol, 21 g/L residual sugar and 7.2 g/L total acidity with only 4 bar pressure (58 psi) vs fermented in the bottle Champagne by contrast usually has 6 to 7 bar (87 to 101.5 psi). This batch had slightly lower bottle fill and is quite soft. I prefer the $19.95 white over the sweeter, maturing 2020 vintage, pricier $24.95 Rose. CSPC 25234

TASTING NOTE: This is an medium-dry, nicely fresh and balanced rose with pretty aromas of pink rose, strawberry jam confection, a touch of fresh bread, with some ginger on the finish. Is there muscat in here. Bubbles are very fine, the length is very good. Score - 89 (David Lawrason, winealign.com, June 9, 2021) Price $ 24.95
