A REPEAT of the 2017 (**+) that was last released on November 14, 2020 at $25.95. Here is my previous note: Assessed from a bottle purchased at the LCBO. This hefty Bordeaux-blend (Meritage as it is called) is an intense, well-structured, blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot. It has an abundance of oak that will thrill many. In fact, I guess that it will probably appeal more to fans of Tempranillo-based Gran Reserva Rioja (think of barrel fermented Beronia Elaboración Especial) as opposed to those who enjoy the subtly of Mouton Cadet. In any case, this Meritage Grand Reserve has an intense, slightly spicy, very faintly reedy, ripe plum-cherry purée nose with lots of cedary notes. Dry, medium to medium-full bodied, fairly dense, slightly spicy, warm, ripe plum-cherry-cassis flavours with some licorice-sandalwood notes on the lingering, very cedary finish. Has 13.5% alcohol, 4 g/L residual sugar and 6.2 g/L total acidity with lot number L2003257H-17 on the lower part of the glass bottle. |

TASTING NOTE: This Bordeaux blend has become an Ontario classic. Look for a complex, plush, elegant wine, with layers of dark fruit, plum, cassis, oak spice and vanilla framed by smoke and wood. Always a savoury delight. Pair with grilled beef or lamb stew. |
