PIAN DELLE VIGNE ROSSO DI MONTALCINO 2019 DOC
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer ANTINORI
Fairly intense deep red colour, this 100% Sangiovese has a slightly spicy, complex, maturing, warm, ripe, pummy-sandalwood nose with some very faintly peppery, mocha-chocolate notes. Dry, medium to medium-full bodied, quite well structured, harmonious, maturing, ripe plum-cherry-cassis flavours with a lingering, slightly tangy, sandalwood finish. It has 13.5% alcohol and 4 g/L residual sugar. Assessed in my ISO glass but is much better in a larger format and gets better as it opens up in the glass. CSPC 467787

TASTING NOTE: The 2019 Pian delle Vigne Rosso di Montalcino wafts up with an intense display of peppery florals and crushed stone, giving way to masses of black cherry, hints of cocoa and sweet tobacco. The textures are silky and pliant, cast across a medium-bodied frame with ripe red and black berries, wrapped in a web of minerals and rounded tannins which slowly unfurl, making for a tactile feel of youthful tension. This is impressively long and structured for the category, but with primary fruit to match. Antinori really knocked it out of the park with their 2019 Rosso. Drinking window: 2022-2025.
