NORMAN HARDIE RIESLING 2017 VQA Ontario |
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note |
Producer |
NORMAN HARDIE |
A SECOND REPEAT of the 2017 that was last released on January 23, 2021 at $21.20. This tasting note was just updated on February 5, 2022. Bright medium straw colour, it has an extremely intense, complex, mineral-driven, yellow-grapefruit-tinged, ripe, apple-lemon nose with some hints of slightly spicy meringue. Slightly off dry, medium bodied and beautifully structured, it’s surprisingly complex and intense with lots of ripe apple-lemon fruit flavours with a lingering, crisp, meringue-tinged finish. It has 11% alcohol, 11 g/L residual sugar and 8.2 tg/L total acidity with a screwcap closure. Sourced from a number of sites in the Niagara Escarpment and Prince Edward County, each block is individually whole cluster pressed and fermented separately in stainless steel then aged 4 months with no malolactic fermentation. The 2017 is best Riesling yet and believe that it may well improve over the next decade. |

TASTING NOTE: Blended from County and Niagara fruit, this is aromatically reserved riesling with mineral, grapefruit and orange, with fine herbs on the nose. Light bodied, very racy, tart and juicy with some bitterness on the finish. The length is very good. Score - 89 (David Lawrason, winealign.com, April 22, 2018) |
