CAYROL VIEILLES VIGNES CARIGNAN 2019 Sustainable, IGP Côtes Catalanes
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer LAFAGE
Very deep intense purple colour. Attractive, gently spicy, fairly complex, ripe plum-cherry-blueberry nose with some minerally, slight sandalwood notes. Dry, medium bodied, well structured, slightly spicy, ripe plummy-blueberry-cherry flavours with a lingering, fairly high acid, complex, still very gently grippy finish. This 100% old-vines Carignan has 14.5% alcohol and 2 g/L residual sugar with lot number L21253A(September 10, 2021) on the lower part of the glass bottle. I guess that this Carignan was fermented in stainless steel with no secondary malolactic fermentation and no oak. It’s quite ready-to-drink and would go well with roast chicken, white meats (lamb, pork, veal) and bbq dishes. A tad fruity for a steak or roast beef. CSPC 494039

TASTING NOTE: Coming all from old vine Carignan, the 2019 Côtes Catalanes Cayrol has a classic nose of mulled red and black berry fruits intermixed with lots of brambly herbs, earth, and chocolate. Nicely textured and medium to full-bodied, with solid tannins (which can be a problem with Carignan), this beauty will shine for a good 4-5 years. Maturity: 2020-2025.
