OAKVILLE CABERNET SAUVIGNON 2018 Napa Valley
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer ROBERT MONDAVI
Extremely deep intense purple colour. Attractive, very slightly spicy, fairly cedary, intense, ripe plum-cherry nose with some very faintly garrigue-tinged, cassis-raspberry notes. Dry, medium-full to full bodied, well structured, harmonious, intense, very elegant, ripe plum-red-and-black-cherry fruit flavours with a lingering, very slightly spicy, gently cedary, cassis-tinged, mouthfilling finish. This To Kalon Vineyard blend of 96% Cabernet Sauvignon and 4% Cabernet Franc with no Malbec, Petit Verdot and/or Merlot has 14.5% alcohol and 2 g/L residual sugar with lot number L0196 on the lower part of the glass bottle. It is all grown in the original To Kalon Vineyard where the winery was built in 1966. It is disheartening to realize that the 2015 was released on September 28, 2019 at a mere $59.95. This 2019 is only $90.25 at the SAQ. CSPC 29207

TASTING NOTE: The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Oakville is a step up and comes all from the To Kalon Vineyard in Oakville. It has a terrific array of cassis and caramelized cherry fruits intermixed with notes of flowers and tobacco. Medium to full-bodied, light on its feet, and wonderfully balanced, it offers more precision, purity, and class than the base Napa release and will keep for 10-15 years. Maturity: 2021-2026.
