CHÂTEAU LA PIROUETTE 2016 Cru Bourgeois, AC Médoc
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer
A REPEAT of the recommended 2016 (**+) was last released on August 31, 2019 at $23.95 (#644799). Here is my new UPDATED note based on a just-purchased bottle: Deep purple colour. Gently complex, slightly spicy, sandalwood-tinged, ripe, plum-cherry nose with some bright cedar notes. Dry, medium bodied, well structured, slightly spicy, fairly intense, somewhat grippy, plum-cherry flavours with a lingering, high acid, gently cedary finish. Great with a steak. his blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 45% Merlot and 5% Petit Verdot has 13% alcohol and 2 g/L residual sugar with lot number L1 on the back label. The number 021087 appears on the case meaning that this batch might have been bottled on March 28, 2021. CSPC 21087

TASTING NOTE: The 2016 Chateau la Pirouette, a blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 45% Merlot and 5% Petit Verdot, offers Bing cherry and wild strawberry on the nose, almost Saint-Julien-like in style. The palate is mediumbodied with firm, quite dry tannin, but there is plenty of black fruit here laced with cedar and undergrowth, a touch of mushroom on the finish. I appreciate the stylishness, the understated manner of this Bordeaux rouge, and it should give several years of pleasure at a very wallet-friendly price. Drink date: 2018-2025.
