GRAN RESERVA 2014 DOCa Rioja, Spain
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer BARÓN DE LEY
Assessed from a bottle purchased at the LCBO. A REPEAT of the recommended 2014 (***) was released on August 21, 2021 at $29.95. Here is my updated tasting note. Very deep intense purple colour. Intense, complex, cedary, sightly spicy, attractive, ripe, plum-cherry-black-currant nose with lots of mineral-tinged, sandalwood-leathery notes. Dry, medium-full to full bodied, well structured, slightly spicy, intense, cedar-driven, warm, ripe, plum-cassis flavours with a lingering, high acid, complex finish. Has 13.5% alcohol and now 2 g/L residual sugar with a new lot number LL211104on the lower part of the glass bottle. A terrific Gran Reserva! CSPC 642496

Matured in a mixture of American and French oak, it has fine-grained tannins, bright acidity and classic notes of leather, tobacco leaf and gamey sweetness. Drink date: 2021-2026.
