Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer GAROGOLI
Here is a dense, youthful, well-priced, 100% Montepulciano from the Marche region just west of Rome that pairs perfectly with a rib steak. The name Piancarda comes from Biancarda, which was the historical name of the area, referring the white (bianca) limestone-rich soil.Extremely deep intense purple colour. the nose is very intense with youthful, ripe, mulberry-tinged, faintly herbal, Damson plum fruit with lots of mineral notes. Dry, medium to medium-full bodied, well structured, intense, slightly spicy, still-firm, ripe plum fruit flavours with a lingering, high acid, sandalwood-tinged, rather grippy, faintly earthy finish. Aged in 3,000- and 6,000-liter Slavonian oak casks for 12 months, it has 13.5% alcohol and 6 g/L residual sugar with lot number 20057A on the back label. The recommended 1999 was released on July 12, 2003 at $13.95. CSPC 721811

TASTING NOTE: Spiced black fruits, licorice, roasted herbs, and chocolate all emerge from the 2017 Rosso CÚnero Piancarda (100% Montepulciano), a ripe, medium to full-bodied, pleasure-bent beauty that does everything right. I love its balance, and it's fresh, yet also textured and lengthy. Score - 90 (Jeb Dunnuck, jebdunnuck.com, June 24, 2020) Price $ 19.95
