MODUS 2017 IGT Toscana, Tuscany, Italy
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer RUFFINO)
A fourth REPEAT (899 cases) of the 2017 originally released in Vintages on July 11, 2020 with 91-points at $29.95. Here is my just updated tasting note based on a fresh bottle from the LCBO. Very deep intense purple colour. Complex, intense, slightly spicy, ripe plum-cherry-cassis nose with some very bright, cedar-vanilla-sandalwood notes. Dry, medium-full bodied, well structured, harmonious, slightly spicy, intense, tangy, attractive, ripe plum-crancherry-cassis flavours with a lingering, fairly high acid, gently cedary, mineral-tinged, fairly extracty finish. This tasty blend of 37% Sangiovese, 32% Merlot and 31% Cabernet Sauvignon has 14.5% alcohol and 2.2 g/L residual sugar (not 4 g/L that was previously posted on the LCBO website) with a NEW lot number L20348 on the lower part of the glass bottle. A Best Buy
TASTING NOTE: This vintage of Modus is an almost even three-way split of sangiovese, merlot and cabernet sauvignon. It shows quite pretty and complex and contemporary nose of nicely proportioned blackberry, vanilla, and gentle wood spice. It is medium weight, nicely firm and almost juicy with rakish tannins that need a year or two. The firm, almost mineral mid-palate is truly Tuscan. The length is excellent. Really like this vintage. Best 2023 to 2030. Score - 92 (David Lawrason, winealign.com, July 14, 2020) Price $ 29.95
