L'ORMARINS CAP CLASSIQUE BLANC DE BLANCS 2013 Traditional method, WO Western Cape, South Africa
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer ANTHONIJ RUPERT
A REPEAT of the recommended best buy 2013 (***) that was initially released on July 25, 2020 at $24.95. Assessed from a new bottle just purchased at the LCBO. The Western Cape 100% Chardonnay has a bright pale straw colour. The nose faintly leesy with ripe apple-lemon meringue fruit and slightly spicy, mineral notes. Dry, medium bodied, fairly well structured and slightly spicy with intense, bright, somewhat creamy, lemon-apple meringue flavours and a lingering, mineral-tinged, very gently toasty, crisp, effervescent finish. It has 12.5% alcohol with 7.4 g/L residual sugar (code 134-13 etched on the lower part of the glass bottle). The wine was tiraged on October 1, 2013 and disgorged on February 3, 2018 meaning that it was on the lees for 52 months Very Champagnesque and terrific value! CSPC 15681

TASTING NOTE: One of a quartet of bubblies in the Anthonij Rupert range, this Blanc de Blancs marries Chardonnay grapes from Elandskloof and Darling. Late disgorged - and so reviewed as a new wine this year - it tastes much drier than its 8 grams of dosage, with chiselled focus and fine bubbles. 2019-24. Score - 92 (Tim Atkin, MW, timatkin.com, South Africa Special Report 2019) Price $ 24.95
Bottle Size 750 mL
