GRAND CLASSIQUE 2018 WO Coastal Region
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer GLEN CARLOU
Wow, here’s a hefty, solid, ripe, cedar-driven, South African red that reminds me of a grippy Gran Reserve Rioja! Extremely intense purple colour, the nose is very intense, complex and cedary with lots of mocha-tinged, baked plum-cherry fruit. Dry, medium-full bodied, mouthfilling, rich, ripe, intense, plummy-crancherry flavours with a fairly high acid (7 g/L total acidity), lingering, cedar-driven finish. This blend of 48% Cabernet Sauvignon, 36% Merlot and 12% Cabernet Franc with 4% Malbec and Petit Verdot packs a lot of flavour from spending 30 days on the skins and finishing with 18 months in barriques. This heft red needs a big glass to accommodate all the flavours. NEW in Vintages. CSPC 173880
