Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer BERTHOUMIEU
This extremely well structured, very youthful 2015 Madiran is something you can lay away for many years. Extremely deep intense purple colour., the nose is intense, expansive and attractive with lots of ripe, plum-cherry-cassis fruit with some mocha-tinged, cedary-sandalwood notes. Dry, medium-full bodied, well structured, dense, harmonious, intense, ripe but still youthful, plum-cassis flavours with a lingering, high acid, somewhat cedary, complex finish. This blend of 90% Tannat and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon has 14.5% alcohol and 2 g/L residual sugar. It comes in a very heavy bottle with no lot number. The recommended best buy 2014 (***) was released on March 7, 2020 at $23.95. Needs aging and a big glass. CSPC 12979

TASTING NOTE: The top wine from this historic estate is almost entirely Tannat, which gives a strong, dense structure. But the Tannat's tannins are balanced by the bold, ripe concentration of dark fruits. This wine is still developing and will likely be ready from 2022.
