AL TASSO CONT'UGO 2018 DOC Bolgheri
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer TENUTA GUADO
Extremely deep intense purple colour. Intense, youthful, slightly spicy, very ripe, plummy-black-cherry nose with some sandalwood-cedar notes. Dry, medium-full bodied, quite juicy, ripe, intense, plum-cherry-cassis fruit flavours with a lingering, fairly high acid, very well structured, tangy, harmonious, sandalwood-cedar finish. Made from perfectly ripe Merlot, it has 14.5% alcohol and 3 g/L residual sugar with lot number L0106 on the back label. Surprisingly ready-to-drink. and better than the 2017 (***) with 90-points that was released on December 7, 2019 at $54.95. CSPC 12620

TASTING NOTE: The 2018 Cont'Ugo is a gorgeous wine that captures the essence of this coolish year on the Tuscan coast. The juiciness of Bolgheri Merlot is nicely tempered by the moderate year. Sweet dark cherry, mocha, spice and leather all meld together in this gracious red from Antinori's Guado al Tasso estate. I would give the tannins a year or two to soften. Drinking window: 2022-2030.
