Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer Domaine Lafage
This very popular crowd-pleaser has a fairly deep purple-red colour with a hint of amber on the edge. Fragrant, spicy, bright, ripe cherry-plum-raspberry fruit nose with some mineral notes. Dry, medium bodied, quite well structured, slightly spicy, very bright, intense, ripe, plum-cherry-raspberry flavours with a lingering, fairly high acid, rather crisp finish. This very tasty, versatile, 100% old-vines Carignan has 14.5% alcohol and 4 g/L residual sugar with lot number L21021A on the lower part of the glass bottle. This 2018 is fermented in stainless steel and aged (80%) in concrete tanks and 20% in neutral French oak demi-muids. The recommended best buy 2017 (**+) was released on August 8, 2020 at $18.95. TASTING NOTE: Tasted out of bottle, the 2018 Côtes Catalanes Tessellae displays a spicy, complex style that carries vivid red and blue fruits, leather, licorice, tree bark, and peppery herbs aromas and flavors. Playing in the more medium-bodied end of the spectrum, it has solid purity of fruit, silky tannins, and a good finish. Enjoy this plump, pleasure-bent effort over the coming 3-4 years.
