BUZZARD KLOOF SYRAH 2018 WO Stellenbosch
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer RUSTENBERG
This new low-yield 2018 100% Syrah is the sixth time it has appeared in Vintages and it is the best yet! Extremely deep intense purple colour, the nose is very intense and elegantly cedary with spicy, gently complex, ripe plum-cherry-cassis fruit with some hints of violets, pepper, sandalwood and mocha-chocolate. Dry, medium-full bodied, well structured, solid, gently spicy, intense, ripe, attractive, cherry-plum-cassis puree flavours with a lingering, cedary, fairly high acid finish. Extremely tasty with lovely chewy texture and mouthfeel, it seems quite accessible but can still age. It has 14 % alcohol, 3.5 g/L residual sugar and lot number 236 19 on the lower part of the glass bottle (bottled in January 2020). It was 100% aged for 20 months in French and American barriques (40% new). CSPC 414151

TASTING NOTE: The 2018 Buzzard Kloof Syrah has an overtly floral nose, bunches of violets and iris flower mixed with the black and blue fruit. The palate is fleshy and silky on the entry. Not deep, and with less grip than expected, though it feels cohesive and quite persistent on the finish. A well crafted Syrah that veers toward the plush side. Drinking window: 2021-2028.
