RESERVE CABERNET SAUVIGNON 2018 Alexander Valley, Sonoma County
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer FRANCIS FORD COPPOLA
NEW in Vintages, this 2018 Francis Coppola Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon comes from the Battle Family Vineyard in the Alexander Valley. Itís a blend of 96% Cabernet Sauvignon, 2% Petit Verdot and
2% Malbec and was aged 16 months French oak (50% new).
It has an extremely deep intense purple colour. There is a lot of cedary oak on the nose followed up by blackberry, plums and dark chocolate with some toffee-caramel notes. Dry, medium-full to full bodied, dense well structured, slightly spicy, intense, ripe, plummy-black-cherry flavours with hints of smoke, fruitcake, red currants and blueberry confiture on the lingering, fairly high acid finish. Overall an attractive red and not overpriced. It has 14.5% alcohol and 3 g/L residual sugar. A co-taster commented that it reminded him a big, hefty, ripe Rioja Gran Reserva on steroids.
