PLAN DE DIEU CÔTES DU RHÔNE-VILLAGES 2018 AC
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer CHÂTEAU LE GRAND RETOUR
Assessed from a bottle purchased at the LCBO. This new 2018 was recently bottled on bottled on February 2, 2021 (L21033) and has an extremely deep intense purple colour. Gently spicy, intense, attractive, juicy, ripe, plummy-black-cherry purée nose. Dry, medium to medium-full bodied, harmonious, spicy, intense, well structured, ripe, plummy-cherry-cassis flavours with a lingering, mocha-chocolate-driven, gently complex, rounded finish. This blend of 70% Grenache, 20% Syrah and 10% Mourvedre now has 15% alcohol (up from 14.5%) and 4 g/L residual sugar (down from 6). It is is showing more ripe fruit than the previous 2017 shipment and is ready to enjoy. A well-priced, ready-to-drink crowd-pleaser that is moving up to 89-points as it sits in the glass. “Lot # PDD18/A” on the back label which tells us nothing about actual the date of bottling. TASTING NOTE: The 2018 Côtes Du Rhône Villages Plan De Dieu is still in tank yet sports a saturated purple color as well as notes of blackberries, ground pepper, violets, and earth. It's pure, plush, and medium to full-bodied, with a rounded, seamless texture and tons of character. It's rocking little fruit bomb to drink on release and over the following 2-4 years. Maturity: 2019-2023. Score - 89-91 (Jeb Dunnuck, jebdunnuck.com, Aug. 16, 2019) Price $ 15.95
