Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer XAVIER VIGNON
Assessed from a bottle purchased at the LCBO. This is the fifth appearance in Vintages and the best for me. Very deep intense purple colour. Intense, complex, very slightly spicy, attractive, ripe, plum-cherry-cassis nose with some mineral-tinged, gentle, cedar-sandalwood notes. Dry, medium-full bodied, quite dense, intense, ripe, plum-cherry-cassis flavours with a long. lingering, mouthfilling, sandalwood-cedar finish complete with hints of ripe wild blueberry. This blend of approximately 60% Grenache, 25% Mourvèdre, 8% Counoise, 4% Vaccarèse and 3% Muscardin has 15% alcohol and 2 g/L residual sugar with lot numbers LX2011329/1 and LR21026/1 on the lower part of the glass bottle. TASTING NOTE: Tasted from barrel, the 2017 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee Anonyme adds toasty notes, cedar and vanilla to the whirlwind of fruit Vignon was able to harness in 2017. Blueberries, black cherries and stone fruit notes abound in this plush, full-bodied red that remains silky and focused on the long finish. It looks to be a terrific effort. Drink date: 2020-2035.
