NAPA VALLEY CABERNET SAUVIGNON 2016 Napa Valley
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer AUROS
Unable to get a bottle for assessment from the agent. A REPEAT of the 2016 (***) with 93-points that was released on November 14, 2020 at $81.95. Here is my previous note: As I understand, it, Auros is made by Robert Mondaviís winemaker in Oakville and is owned by Constellation Brands. Having just taste it, I believe that a lot of knowledgeable California Cab fans are going to love it - whether or not they can afford it. It originates from three Napa Valley sub-appellations: Oak Knoll, Oakville and Stagís Leap and is a blend of 86% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7.5% Petit Verdot, 5.7% Malbec, .5% Merlot and .3% Cabernet Franc which spent 18 months in French oak. Very deep intense purple colour, it has bright, somewhat cedary, intense, ripe, refined, plummy-black-cherry-cassis fruit along with some faintly leathery, mineral-tinged, slight mocha notes. Itís dry, medium-full bodied. harmonious and yet very well structured with lifted, ripe, cassis-crancherry fruit and a lingering, gently complex, sandalwood-tinged finish. It has 15.1% alcohol and yet is still fresh. Only 126 bottles were available - this release has 548 bottles! CSPC 17121

TASTING NOTE: Aged 18 months in French oak, this wine was made with fruit (including some Petit Verdot and Malbec) sourced from three of Napa Valley's sub-appellations: Oak Knoll, Oakville, and the Stags Leap District, with 15 different soil types among them. Aromas of fresh blackberry and plum combine with a hint of mocha on the inspired nose as grainy tannins, a rich mouthfeel, and balanced fruit and acid make this red work to its optimal ability. Leather and fennel come in for a savory finish. Score - 93 (Meridith May, tastingpanelmag.com, Oct. 2019) Price $ 79.95
