Sette Ponti ORENO 2018 IGT Toscana
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer Sette Ponti
Assessed from a bottle purchased at the LCBO. There have been 14 previous releases of Oreno since December 2010 - the best some far was the 2017. And yet what an amazing up-tic from the excellent 2017 into the magnificent 2018. Itís all about elegance, balance, ripeness and harmony. And best of all - about surprising accessibility and drinkability. Website postings suggest that this 2018 is a new blend of 45% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Petit Verdot. Very deep intense ruby-violet colour. The nose has some slightly warm earthy, faintly cedarynotes built around mineral-tinged, plum-cherry-cassis fruit. Very dry, medium-full bodied, dense, well structured, faintly spicy, intense, bright, ripe, plum-cherry-cassis fruit flavours with a lingering, surpringly harmonious, fairly high acid finish. Elegant with refined ripe tannins. It has 15% alcohol and 2 g/L residual sugar with lot number L090720-3 on the back label. CSPC 735597

TASTING NOTE: Currant, flower and orange-blossom aromas follow through to a full body with fine, creamy tannins and a long, persistent finish. Shows finesse and precision. Cherry and orange-peel notes at the end. The flavors go on and on. Better after 2022. Score - 97 (jamessuckling.com, Dec. 21, 2020) Price $ 92.95
