RESERVE RED BLEND 2013 WO Stellenbosch
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer GLENELLY ESTATE
The 2011 was a recommended/best buy when released on April 13, 2019 at $19.95. I was looking forward to tasting this new 2013 which brings so much flavour to the table. It doesn’t disappoint. This hefty new blend of 47% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23% Merlot, 15% Syrah, 11% Cabernet Franc and 4% Petit Verdot weights in with 14.5% alcohol and less than 2 g/L residual sugar. It has a very deep intense purple colour and an attractive, gently complex, intense, rather cedary, slightly leafy, somewhat hot, plum-cherry-cassis-sandalwood nose with some leathery notes. Dry, medium-full bodied, well structured, dense, slightly spicy, ripe, complex, plum-cherry-cassis flavours with a lingering, high acid, rather cedary,licorice-tinged finish. A tad tight in my small ISO glass - try in a big Pinot Noir snifter. Great value but may not be for everyone. CSPC 652289

TASTING NOTE: Cab continues its rise - to 47% in 2013, with merlot, cab franc, shiraz & petit Verdot. Developing aromas & flavours add savoury complexity to the usual sweet fruity charm & tobacco notes. More ripeness & power (14.5% alcohol) than previously, with firm tannic backbone, but elegance too. Score - 94 (Platter's South African Wine Guide, 2019) Price $ 20.95
Bottle Size 750 mL
