AGLIANICO 2018 IGT Campania
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer TERREDORA DI PAOLO
Assessed from a bottle purchased at the LCBO. I rarely if ever score wines higher than James Suckling, but I for me, his Nov. 24, 2020 “drink now” 89-point review in the Vintages Catalogue really misses the mark as far as this bottle that I am now tasting. Of course, one has to take into account the possibility that this batch (lot number L2021301 on the capsule) is simply much better that the one that Suckling tasted last year (he rarely reveals what he is tasting). In any case, here is an exceptionally priced 100% Aglianico that hits the mark. Very deep intense purple in colour, the nose is excellent with lots of complex, intense, gently smoky, ripe, plum-cherry-cassis fruit followed up by sandalwood-mineral notes. Dry, medium to medium-full bodied, intense, well structured, very slightly spicy, a faintly bitter, maturing, ripe, plum-cassis flavours with a lingering, fairly high acid, dense, sandalwood-cedar finish. It has 13% alcohol and 2 g/L residual sugar. CSPC 602284
