Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer TORNATORE
This 100% Nerello Mascalese is grown on the northern slopes of Mt. Etna. Itís not big but a just a real charmer with lots of aromatic finesse.
Medium-deep ruby red colour, the nose has bright, fairly ripe, raspberry-tinged, rose petal notes with some faintly herbal sandalwood notes. Itís very dry and bright but only medium bodied with spicy, seemingly high acid, intense, pure rose-hip flavours with lots of mineral, schisty notes. This wine is blessed with high dry extract which accounts for the impression of high acidity (it is 5.8 g/L total acidity) and leaves an almost gritty texture on the palate which makes it a perfect food companion, especially with local tomato-based dishes and even grilled garlic-festooned grilled fish. It has a hefty 14.5% alcohol and a mere 1.1 g/L residual sugar with lot number L1706619 on the back label. NEW in Vintages.

TASTING NOTE: Aromas of flint, tobacco, tar and carob mingle with whiffs of dried rose, cherry marinated in spirits and camphor in this full-bodied red. The smooth, delicious palate delivers crushed raspberry, blackberry, grilled herb, cinnamon and sandalwood alongside polished tannins. With delicious fruit and weightless elegance, the alcohol content is barely noticeable. Score - 95 (Kerin O'Keefe, Wine Enthusiast, Dec. 1, 2020) Price $ 34.95
