Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer LES GRANDES SERRES
I don’t know about you, but I am always suspicious when the LCBO quotes an old high-scoring tasting note for a new release. In this case its a 91-points dating back to November 30, 2018 only a few months after the wine was released. Today 27-months later the question is: will it taste the same? The answer is no - probably because this is a new bottling done on October 22, 2020. So what does it taste like today? Pretty damn good. It has a fairly deep purple colour and a surprisingly fresh, lively, fruit-driven nose with lots of bright ripe plummy-raspberry fruit . That “intriguingly herbal” note is all but gone and, thankfully also gone is the tartness and tautness. What we have today is dry, medium bodied, well balanced and harmonious with fresh, intense, ripe, Damson-plum-raspberry fruit flavours that linger perfectly on the palate. At its peak, it’s a recommended best buy for current enjoyment. This blend of Grenache, Carignan, Mourvèdre and Syrah has 15% alcohol and 3 g/L residual sugar with a new lot number L20296 on the upper part of the glass bottle meaning that Vintages tasting note was based on a previous bottling. TASTING NOTE: The 2017 Rasteau la Chevaliere is an intriguingly herbal, red-fruited Rasteau from an appellation better known for weight, richness and dark fruit. It's medium to full-bodied, with tart berry fruit, taut structure and finegrained, silky tannins on the finish. It should be reasonably long lived for the appellation. Drink date: 2018-2024. Score - 91 (Joe Czerwinski, robertparker.com, Nov. 30, 2018) Price $ 20.95
