Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer HENRIOT
We shared this wine with Tim Appelt who provided this review: This vintage 2008 Champagne is ideal for those who, like me, enjoy a subtle, minimalist style. It's a light, bright silvery-gold in the glass. You'll find notes of lightly bruised red apple off the top, cushioned by a leesy, toasty backdrop, with hints of apricot and apricot pit, and a slightly dried-floral topnote. The wine is quite dry, with the crisp acidity deftly hiding 7 grams of residual sugar, and keeping the palate light, focused, and lean, rather than generous. With twelve years on lees, the wine is still remarkably fresh and clean, despite the fact that much of the overt fruit on the palate is subsumed by the yeasty autolytic character. Very appealing to the right audience. Henriot states that the lot number on this LCBO shipment is L2014710620 (back label) and that it was tiraged on June 11, 2009 and disgorged in June 2020. This blend of 50% Chardonnay and 50% Pinot Noir has 12% alcohol, 7.15 g/L residual sugar, 7 g/L total acidity and 18 g/L dry extract. It has 6.2 atmospheres pressure which converts to 91 pounds per square Inch bottle pressure. NEW in Vintages and may well improve with more time to relax in the bottle! CSPC 18136

TASTING NOTE: An undramatic, cloud-filled season came right in a late harvest in October. A textbook cool vintage of great ageing potential. The perfect 50/50 balance of mineral-stamped Chardonnay and powerful, masculine Pinot makes this a champagne for patient drinkers, as it will take time to reach its peak. Vibrant acidity is joined by notes of white flowers and that magnificent mineral structure. Drinking window: 2020-2035. Score - 96 (Michael Edwards, decanter.com, March 27, 2019) Price $ 121.95
