Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer VOLLEREAUX
Last appeared in Vintages (***) on December 8, 2018 and was Recommended Best Buy. Here is my February 18, 2021 UPDATED note from a bottle just purchased at the LCBO. Bright medium-light straw colour. Very bright, somewhat spicy, gently toasty, ripe, apple-lemon meringue nose with some mineral notes. Dry, medium bodied, quite well structured, fairly creamy, effervescent, bright, attractive, youthful, ripe, apple-lemon meringue flavours with a a lingering, lifted, crisp, gently toasty finish. This tasty, elegant 100% Chardonnay has 12% alcohol and 9 g/L residual sugar with lot number L-02-10-20 on the lower part of the glass bottle. The date it was disgorged 0120 (January 2020) is printed on the cork. From 1,002 bottles, only 300 remain as of March 3. CSPC 629469

TASTING NOTE: Champagne Vollereaux is a smaller grower and négociant, based in the village of Pierry just south of Épernay, with 40 hectares of vineyards scattered throughout the region. This is a very good Champagne, made in a modern, fresh and linear style. The nose is lean and focused, with subtle lemon, green apple and pear notes, a waft of white flowers and a hint of toast. The palate is rather dry and crisp, with the firm acidity softened just a little by a light creamy texture, before it focuses towards the finish and imparts a stony minerality to the lingering, drying citrus essence. An attractive value for Champagne. Score - 92 (Tim Appelt, winediscovery.ca, Dec. 8, 2018) Price $ 52.95
