Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer CHÂTEAU D'ANGLÈS
Assessed from a bottle purchased at the LCBO. The 2017 (not presented) was released on March 7, 2020 at $17.95. As Eric Fabre says ‘40% Syrah is for fruit and spices delicately vinified and blended with 40% Grenache for roundness plus a dash of 20%
Mourvèdre giving structure and the refreshing minty touch from the terroir of La Clape appellation - a tasty, smooth and balanced wine to enjoy without complexes!’ OK this is his entry red and as tasty as it is for $18.95, lets not go crazy. It has a very deep intense purple colour and a spicy, ripe, Damson plum nose with some mineral notes. The dry, only medium bodied, tangy, fruit-driven, plummy-red cherry flavours have some herbal notes and a touch of red licorice and sandalwood on the lingering, well structured finish. Unoaked and ready-to-drink, it gets a solid 89-points which is a tad better than Jancis Robinson’s 17 out of 20! It has 14% alcohol and 2 g/L residual sugar with lot number L20/269 on the back label and L20216 on the lower part of the glass bottle.
