Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer CHÂTEAU CAPITOUL
Assessed from a bottle purchased at the LCBO. In 2015 the appellation La Clape was accredited “Grand Cru” status and this very tasty, ripe, fruit-driven blend of 45% Syrah, 35% Grenache Noir and 20% Carignan should not be missed! Deep intense purple colour, it has a lovely cassis fruit driven nose with some cedar-tiged, mocha-chocolate notes. Dry, medium to medium-full bodied, well structured, intense, ripe, plummy-black-cherry flavours with great mid-palate and texture with a lingering, faintly smoky, fairly high acid finish. It shows lots of style and is capable of aging. It has 13.5% alcohol with lot number L20317/2 on the back label. NEW in Vintages. CSPC 18152

TASTING NOTE: There's less Syrah and more Carignan in the 2017 La Clape Rocaille than in the Oros bottling, and it's aged exclusively in tank. It's still an attractive, fruit-driven wine for drinking over the next 3-4 years, with the herbal, spicy notes of the Carignan serving to highlight the blueberry fruit of the Syrah, while the Grenache fleshes out the medium-bodied palate.
