MERLOT 2018 Lodi
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer IRONSTONE
Unable to get a bottle for assessment from agent. A THIRD REPEAT of the recommended 2018 (**/**+) that was released on August 22, 2020 at $17.95. Here is my previous note: Fairly deep intense purple colour. Juicy, spicy, somewhat cedary, ripe, plum-cherry purée nose with some faint mineral notes. Dry, medium bodied, quite well structured, slightly spicy, harmonious, ripe, black-cherry-plum purée flavours with a lingering, fairly high acid, gently cedary finish. For my taste, this new 2018 ready-to-drink, crowd-pleaser is by far the best yet! It has 14.5% alcohol and 5 g/L residual sugar with lot number L16619 on the lower part of the glass bottle. TASTING NOTE: Ironstone Merlot is a consistent crowd-pleaser, enticing with its aromas of plushy dark, spiced plum and mocha on the nose. Full-bodied with black plum compote, savoury herbs and plenty of smoky vanilla and sweet oak spice flavours on the palate. The Kautz family, owners and operators of Ironstone, began farming in Lodi in 1926 and have been making wine there for four generations. Drink: 2020-2025. Best Value Wine.
