Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer GLENELLY
Assessed from a bottle purchased at the LCBO. Here is a rather hefty, still youthful, Stellenbosch Syrah with solid fruit that is great with wintery stews. Aged for 12 months in French oak, it has a very deep intense purple colour and bright, ripe, intense, Damson plum nose with some cedary notes. Dry, medium bodied and well structured, the fruit is front and center - mostly ripe plum with a touch of of black cherry and cassis - plus a lingering, fairly high acid, gently cedary,earth-tinged finish. It is flavourful, very well priced and showing well now. I was surprised to discover that this wine was given three weeks of extended skin contact before moved to used French oak barrels for malolactic fermentation. Has 14.5% alcohol and 2 g/L residual sugar. NEW in Vintages. CSPC 493841
