Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer RENATO RATTI
Assessed from a bottle purchased at the LCBO. There is no question that Renato Rattiís Marcenasco comes at a significant price with lots of sky-high reviews. Those expecting a blockbuster of a Barolo are probably going to be surprised. This is not what its ardent fans are looking for. Itís the nuances, shades and intensities of flavours. Take the colour - itís a gently ambering medium bricky red colour. The nose is fairly intense, slightly spicy and quite complex with some faintly dried, ripe plum and red licorice notes. Very dry and fairly intense on the palate, itís medium bodied, quite well structured, slightly spicy, dried ripe plums with licorice-tinged, red cherry flavours and a lingering, surprisingly high acid, cedar-sandalwood-tinged finish. It has 14% alcohol and 3 g/L residual sugar with lot number L5219 on the front label. Tried in a variety of stems, the best is yet to come! CSPC 713479

TASTING NOTE: Iris, rose, botanical herb and dark spice aromas lead the way in this fragrant red, along with an enticing whiff of graphite. Elegantly structured and boasting youthful tension, the vibrant palate delivers juicy Morello cherry, crushed raspberry, cinnamon and star anise framed in taut, refined tannins. It's balanced and focused, with bright acidity. Drink 2024-2036. Score - 97 (Kerin O'Keefe, Wine Enthusiast, Sept. 1, 2020) Price $ 71.95
