RIOJA RESERVA 2015 DOCa Rioja |

COTO DE IMAZ |
Assessed from a bottle purchased at the LCBO. Wow, 96-points for a $25.95 Rioja Reserva - that’s enticing. In fact, this is a very attractive, surprisingly ready-to-drink red, even if the score seems slightly exaggerated. This 100% Tempranillo had ext13.ended maceration on the skins which lasted for 21-30 days during fermentation in stainless steel tanks. The malolactic fermentation took place in tanks prior to being transferred to new American oak barrels (225 litre) to age for at least 18 months. The end result is great. Bright deep purple-crimson colour, the nose shows lots of ripe, warm, plummy-black-cherry-cassis fruit with an abundance of toast. Dry, medium to medium-full bodied, well structured, slightly spicy, fairly intense, ripe, plum-black-cherry-cassis fruit flavours and a lingering, cedary, very bright, still fresh finish. A bargain indeed. It has 13.5% alcohol and 2 g/L residual sugar with lot number 2218FV1-09:10-1666 on the lower part of the glass bottle. The 2011(not presented) was released on March 4, 2017 at $22.95. |
