MONASTRELL 2018 DOP Jumilla |
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note |
Producer |
HONORO VERA |
Assessed from a bottle purchased at the LCBO. Spain has some great, well-priced, ready-to-enjoy reds that offer great satisfaction. This much-improved Monastrell from Jumilla is one of them. It’s the fifth to date and the best yet. Deep red colour, it is slightly spicy, very bright and gently juicy with a ripe plum-cherry purée nose. Dry, medium bodied, slightly spicy, harmonious, gently juicy, ripe plum-crancherry flavours with a lively, crisp finish. Ready-to-drink - it would work well with turkey! It has 14% alcohol and now only 4 g/L residual sugar with lot number L-0101A1 on the back label. The 2017 was released on May 11, 2019 at $13.95. |

TASTING NOTE: The brambly ripe cherries are super fresh here with a sleek, modern feel that offers a gently smoky, wet dark-stone edge. The palate has a rich, sweet core of tangy raspberry and red-plum flavor. Succulent. Drink or hold. Score - 91 (jamessuckling.com, July 26, 2019) |
