GRAN RESERVA CABERNET SAUVIGNON 2017 Sustainable, DO Colchagua Valley |

Assessed from a bottle purchased at the LCBO. This hefty, well-made, Chilean take on Bordeaux is definitely worth tasting. The winery’s vineyards located just south of Santiago and are quite close to the Pacific on granitic soils. Very deep intense purple colour, the nose is intense and youthful with lots of mineral-driven, ripe Damson plum and crancherry fruit with some faintly herb-tinged, cedary notes. Dry, full bodied, rich and grippy with lots of youthful, intense, still grippy, plum-cherry-cassis flavours with a lingering, high acid, gently complex, lingering finish. Tight in my small ISO glass, it needs something bigger that will allow all the flavours to come to the fore. This blend of 88% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Carmenere and 4% Cabernet Franc aged for 12 months in French oak has 14% alcohol and 2 g/L residual sugar with lot number 20/232 on the back label. Perfect with a rib steak, it will be even better in a few more years. NEW in Vintages. |

TASTING NOTE: As usual for the style of this house, this cabernet has a structure built around the acidity, which underscores-or rather heightens-the flavors of tart red fruits. The granitic soils seem to accentuate its tense character even more. This cabernet sauvignon comes from vineyards planted in the Marchigüe zone in 2007 and was aged in barrels for 12 months.
