ORENO 2017 IGT Toscana
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer Tenuta Sette Ponti
Assessed from a bottle purchased at the LCBO. There have been 13 previous releases of Oreno since the 20017 in December 2010. This is a REPEAT of the 2017 (not presented) on November 23, 2019 at $86.95. Very deep intense ruby-violet-purple colour. The nose has some slightly warm earthy, nutty notes built around mineral-tinged, plum-cherry-cassis fruit. Very dry, medium-full bodied, dense, well structured, faintly spicy, still somewhat terse, youthful, plum-cherry-cassis flavours with a lingering, grippy, tannic-tinged, fairly high acid finish. This really needs time and promises to deliver in 2-5 years. It has 15% alcohol and 2.3 g/L residual sugar with lot number L0903197 on the back label. This 2017 blend of 50% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Petit Verdot is quite different from what it was 10 years ago - the 2007 was a blend of 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot and 20% Sangiovese.
