LE GRAND CLOS PINOT NOIR 2018 VQA Twenty Mile Bench, Niagara Escarpment |

LE CLOS JORDANNE |
Assessed from a bottle provided by the winery. A lot of more effort went into this second new release of Arterra’s resurrected Le Clos Jordanne. I totally unimpressed with the 2017 (a mere 88.5-points), This 2018 is another matter! In fact, it’s much better than what was released from 2008 to 2011 when it was priced at $70 to $75! it has a slightly forward very faintly ambering medium-deep red colour. The nose exudes ripe Damson plum, cassis, cherry and cranberry with just the right touch of mineral-tinged, toastiness. It’s dry, medium to medium-full bodied and very well structured with classy, harmonious, still slightly edgy, perfectly ripe, plum-cherry-cassis (Pommard-inspired) fruit that is followed up by a long, lingering, finish. Great mouthfeel suggests minimal filtration. It has 13.5% alcohol and 2 g/L residual sugar. Screwcap closure. Buy a case and lay it away for that special occasion. |

TASTING NOTE: This is the second vintage of this Pinot since Le Clos Jordanne was relaunched following the 2012 shutdown. From Thomas Bachelder, this single-vineyard Ontario Pinot will evoke notions of Burgundy with its purity, intensity and refined minerality. Expect a lithe, ripe wine of superb quality. |
