CHÂTEAU HAUCHAT 2018 AC Fronsac |
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note |
Producer |

Assessed from a bottle purchased at the LCBO. Very deep intense purple colour. Fairly intense, gently complex, spicy, ripe plum nose with some raspberry-tinged, red-licorice-sandalwood notes. Dry, medium bodied, quite well structured, firm, ripe but retrained, tangy, plum-raspberry-cherry flavours with a lingering, high acid, red-peppercorn-tinged finish. A well-priced still rather youthful Bordeaux to match roast beef or perhaps a rib steak. This 100% Merlot was aged for 15 months in 1/3 new, 1-year and 2-year barrels. It has 14.5% alcohol and according to the LCBO 3 g/L residual sugar with lot number 30/07/2020 on the lower part of the glass bottle. |

TASTING NOTE: Fronsac is a region that offers approachably priced introductions to Bordeaux. Expect this Merlot-led wine to suggest ripe dark fruit, plum, freshly ground coffee, cassis, earth, vanilla, and artfully integrated oak spice. Enjoy it tonight with grilled lamb or consider it an inexpensive way to start a cellar, as this wine will continue to evolve for 3+ years. |
