Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer MONASTERIO DE LAS VIÑAS
Assessed from a bottle purchased at the LCBO. Here is a delicious 2016 Spanish old vine Garnacha BEST BUY REPEAT for only $16.95 that last appeared on August 17, 2019 at $16.95. Forget about the old 90-point note from October 15, 2018 that appears in the Vintages Catalogue. It is getting better every year! This batch has with lot number L200482 on the back label (the last one was L19039). It has a fairly intense deep purple colour and bright, gently juicy, fresh, fairly complex, ripe plum-cherry-cassis nose with some mineral-tinged, cedary notes. Dry, medium-bodied-plus, quite well structured, slightly spicy, ripe, intense, plum-cherry-blackberry fruit flavours with a lingering, fairly high acid finish. Yummy. It spent a modest 4 months in French oak and has 14.5% alcohol and now 4 g/L residual sugar. Who said there isn’t a Santa Claus? CSPC 10635
