CENTRAL OTAGO PINOT NOIR 2018 Central Otago, South Island
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer INVIVO
Assessed from a bottle purchased at the LCBO. Here is a real change-of-pace, rather distinctive, flavoursome Central Otago Pinot Noir that captured my attention. First, the colour seems quite forward and lighter than expected - a somewhat pale ambering medium-deep garnet red. The nose shows lots of complexity that may or may not appeal to everyone. I liked the earthy, leathery notes that accompanied the intense, warm, rose hip jam and dried, ripe, plum cherry fruit. Dry, medium bodied, fairly spicy, slightly smoky, leathery, complex, high acid, intense, cassis-crancherry-Damson-plum flavours that really go on and on. Quite ready to drink with a surprisingly pleasing mouthfeel. Has 14% alcohol and 2 g/L residual sugar with lot number 19293 on the lower part of the glass bottle with a screwcap closure. CSPC 466029
