PINOT NOIR 2018 Marlborough, South Island |
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note |
Producer |
JULES TAYLOR |
Assessed from a bottle purchased at the LCBO. How different is this polished, well-made Marlborough Pinot Noir from the tasty, albeit very idiosyncratic 2018 from Central Otago. It has been a long time. The recommended 2014 (**+) with 89-points was released on May 27, 2017 at $25.95. This is just a tad better and rates a Best Buy. Fairly deep purple colour. The nose is elegant and fairly intense with gently spicy, ripe plum-raspberry-cherry fruit with some hints of sandalwood. Dry, medium bodied, harmonious, slightly spicy, gently juicy, bright, ripe plum-cherry-cassis flavours with a lingering, fairly crisp, cedar-tinged finish. A classy, fairly solid, well-made Pinot Noir that has wide appeal and is quite ready-to-drink. Has 14% alcohol and 2 g/L residual sugar with lot number 9087 on the lower part of the glass bottle. |

TASTING NOTE: Splendidly fruited and beautifully fragrant, the bouquet shows dark cherry, ripe strawberry, floral and toasted hazelnut characters with seductive savoury complexity. The palate is equally satisfying with lovely fruit weight and roundness, leading to a lengthy polished finish. At its best: now to 2023. Score - 93 (Sam Kim, wineorbit.co.nz, Aug. 2020) |
