QUARRY ROAD PINOT NOIR 2017 VQA Vinemount Ridge, Niagara Peninsula |
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note |
Producer |
TAWSE |
Assessed from a bottle provided by the winery. This Murray Tawse Côte de Nuits inspired Niagara Peninsula Pinot Noir has a medium-deep to deep garnet red colour. Attractive, still fairly youthful, gently complex, fresh, rather intense, ripe, plum and red-and-black-cherry nose with some hints of minerality and just a touch of oak. Dry, medium to medium-full bodied, quite well structured, bright, still fresh, crunchy, ripe, plum-crancherry flavours with a lingering, fairly high acid, mineral-tinged finish. This organic red has 12.5% alcohol and 2 g/L residual sugar with only 4,000 bottles being produced. |

TASTING NOTE: A classic pinot noir, brimming with flavour and surprising intensity. Not heavy or clunky but showing some notable, youthful oak spice such as nutmeg and clove. A bit of black pepper, fresh fig, and black cherry. Ripe but not at all jammy and fresh with acidity. Youthful. Score - 91 (Sara d'Amato, winealign.com, June 19, 2020) |
